Event Notes: London 2012 Olympic Velodrome To Host UCI Track Cycling World Cup

London 2012's Olympic velodrome will host the second round of the Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) Track Cycling World Cup in December. The event will run from Dec. 5-7 -- the "first World Cup to be held at the velodrome since the Olympics." The VeloPark will "also host the 2016 Track World Championships" (BBC, 8/19). ... The top European sailing club will be identified at the new SAILING Champions League, which will take place from Oct. 17-19 in Copenhagen. Together, the German Sailing League (Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga), the Danish Sailing League (Sejlsportsligaen) and the European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF), are inviting 36 of the top sailing clubs, from 23 nations, to Copenhagen to compete for the title of best club (SAILING Champions League). ... The World Baseball Softball Confederation announced on Tuesday that the hosting rights of the three Baseball World Cups (U15, U21 and Women's) that will take place in '16 have been awarded to Japan, Mexico and South Korea, respectively (WBSC). ... Tennis Emirates will host the Int'l Tennis Federation's Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be headed by ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti in Dubai from Sept. 16-18 (GULF NEWS, 8/19). ... The Davis Cup playoff between Ukraine and Belgium will be held at a "neutral venue in Estonia because of security issues in Kiev." The ITF said that the best-of-five World Group playoff series will be played from Sept. 12-14 in Tallinn (AP, 8/20).
