National Rugby League Wests Tigers, Meriton Apartments Extend Partnership For One Year

Billionaire developer Harry Triguboff hopes "commonsense will prevail" at National Rugby League side Wests Tigers after extending Meriton Apartments' sponsorship with the "embattled club for another year," according to Adrian Proszenko of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. There were fears "ongoing instability on the board, coupled with speculation over the coaching situation, could end up hurting the joint-venture club financially." In August, Meriton Founder & Managing Dir Triguboff "threatened to end his long-running association with the club." Despite the dramas, Triguboff -- the merger's "inaugural major sponsor" -- has given the Tigers some "rare good news in his decision to stick solid." Triguboff: "I am sure they have wonderful young kids and commonsense will prevail. We should do very well." The present Meriton deal is reportedly worth about A$700,000 ($657,000) to A$900,000, with the Tigers "entitled to the larger amount should they make it all the way to this year's grand final" (SMH, 7/29).
