Argentine Basketball Confederation President Daniel Zanni Resigns Under Pressure

Argentine Basketball Confederation (CABB) President Daniel Zanni's resignation after 18 days in the role, "along with a promised audit and the scheduling of an election of a new president," will allow the Argentine national team to compete in the FIBA World Cup starting Aug. 30 in Spain, according to the EFE. Zanni said, "It is not easy when the players do not want you, I have only received humiliation." Members of Argentina's men's team including Luis Scola of the NBA Indiana Pacers and Manu Ginóbili of the San Antonio Spurs had on Friday threatened "to not participate in the FIBA World Cup if there were not changes to the foundation and an informed investigation of the economic and institutional state of the CABB." With the players' willingness to participate "now assured, the primary concern is Ginóbili's health and availability" (EFE, 7/28).
