Mercedes F1 driver NICO ROSBERG married his longtime girlfriend VIVIAN SIBOLD in Monaco over the weekend. The couple "invited only close friends and family members to the ceremony." Rosberg said, "The both of us are on cloud nine." The couple started dating in '03 (BILD, 7/12). ... DAVID BECKHAM will be presented with the Legend Award at Nickelodeon's "Kids' Choice Sports 2014," in recognition of his talent and sportsmanschip on the field. Nickelodeon's first Legend Award blimp will go gold for Beckham (Nickelodeon). ... French Olympic Gold Medalist CAMILLE MUFFAT said that "she is retiring from competitive swimming at 25 following a disagreement with her coach." Muffat said that "she had had a disagreement with her coach" FABRICE PELLERIN and that "had led her to end her career." She said, "It will stay between us like many other things, good or bad" (AFP, 7/12).

THE LONG HAUL: VICKY SONG "became the first Chinese woman to circumnavigate the globe when the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race fleet of 12 yachts docked at London’s St. Katharine Docks on Saturday" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 7/12). ... British diver TOM DALEY and former Welsh rugby player GARETH THOMAS "are among the list of sports people to be inducted into the U.S. National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame" (PINK NEWS, 7/11). ... Australian diver CHANTELLE NEWBERY, 37, of Victoria Point, "was placed on a drug diversion program after pleading guilty in Cleveland Magistrates Court to possession of dangerous drugs and failing to properly dispose of syringes on Thursday." She was also fined A$300 "for failing to show up for a scheduled appearance at Wynnum Magistrates Court" (THE AGE, 7/11). ... The Czech police "detained a man who threatened in a phone call to hurt the newly crowned Wimbledon champion" PETRA KVITOVA. The man "faces up to three years in prison if convicted" (AP, 7/12).

CALL IT A DAY: Former England rugby player and 2003 World Cup winner IAIN BALSHAW "has announced his retirement from rugby." The 35-year-old, who won three Test caps for the Lions, "has failed to recover from a knee injury sustained while playing for Biarritz in France." He tweeted, "After 16 months of unsuccessful rehab it is finally time to call it a day" (BBC, 7/11). ... ROD STEWART "is set to perform at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow later this month." He will be joined by Scottish-born singer SUSAN BOYLE. Glasgow 2014 organizers "expect 40,000 people at Celtic Park" on July 23 to watch the games kick off. Also due to perform are Scottish acts AMY MACDONALD and JULIE FOWLIS alongside violinist NICOLA BENNEDETTI (BBC, 7/12).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
