League Notes: Pakistan To Elect New Cricket Chief After Sethi Ousted Again

Pakistan cricket’s administration crisis "took a fresh turn" on Thursday after Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Najam Sethi "was removed" for the third time and former judge Jamshed Ali Shah "was installed" as interim. The latest decision came from PM Nawaz Sharif, "also a patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board" (AFP, 7/10). ... Positive illicit drug tests under the Australian Football League's code "are not being counted as strikes if players are in treatment from a club or league doctor." It is believed this scenario "could occur whether a player has recorded none, one or two strikes -- so long as he has been withdrawn from playing" (HERALD SUN, 7/10). ... Thousands of people "have signed an online petition to drop the outfits Scottish athletes are to wear at the Glasgow 2014 opening ceremony." The clothing "has split opinion," with athletes and organizers said to have given a "favourable reaction" to the design, while many people "continue to ridicule the outfits" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 7/10). ... Serie A side AS Roma President James Pallotta has called for "comprehensive reform" in Italian football, "particularly within the game's governing bodies." There "has been much soul searching and debate going on" following Italy's "early exit" from this summer's World Cup. Pallotta: "It is clear that we need new and effective leadership independent and stronger than the current regime which has proved incapable of finding solutions" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 7/10).
