Constantin Medien Interested In Bundesliga Pay-TV Rights For Channel Sport1+

Constantin Medien Managing Dir Dieter Hahn "is considering bidding for Bundesliga pay-TV broadcast rights," according to the SID. Hahn "wants to create an additional offer to current rights holder Sky." Hahn: "It has been my opinion for a long time that there should be several different offers for live Bundesliga games. So far, TV viewers either have to forgo Bundesliga games or purchase Sky's complete package. It is an outstanding premium product for a corresponding high price. A broad number of consumers, who are unable to afford it, have therefore been excluded." Hahn said that he "would like to purchase a package for pay-TV channel Sport1+" that will have a price tag of less than €10 ($13.59) for consumers. Hahn does not rule out that a package like he imagines could cost up to €100M ($136M). Sky is paying €480M for the complete pay-TV rights package from '13-17. The German Football League (DFL) is expected to decide on the rights period '17-21 in '16 (SID, 7/6).
