All Whites Matches Help New Zealand Football Bank $5.2 Million Profit

New Zealand national football team's All Whites' World Cup playoff "was a disaster on the field but a cash cow off the pitch" with New Zealand Football declaring a NZ$6.1M ($5.2M) profit in the '13 year, according to Tony Smith of STUFF. New Zealand was "thrashed 9-3 in the home and away series," but NZF Chair Bill Moran said that "the broadcasting revenue had played a major part in the national body recording a sixth consecutive surplus." Moran said that NZ$3.1M "had been transferred" into the Int'l Teams Activity Reserve fund set up in '10 to help fund New Zealand's elite men's and women's teams. A further NZ$3M was invested in grassroots programs, with NZ$1.5M "divided among the seven regional football federations who deliver the Whole of Football plan." Moran said that while the surplus had been boosted by TV revenue from the FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff with Mexico, "the day-to-day operations produced another strong result" (STUFF, 6/16).
