Media Notes: Sport 24 To Broadcast Live Coverage Of FIFA World Cup On Flights

Sport 24, the only 24/7 live sports channel exclusive to the in-flight industry, will broadcast live coverage of the FIFA World Cup this summer -- the first time passengers traveling by air will be able to watch the tournament live. Sport 24 will show all 64 matches in Brazil, the majority of which will be live, starting with the opening game on Thursday. The match coverage is produced by FIFA TV’s broadcast production team in Brazil before being tailored for in-flight viewing and distributed by IMG Media (IMG). ... ManU has reached 50 million followers on Facebook -- the fastest of any sports organization to do so. The club is embarking on a series of initiatives on its page to thank fans (ManU). ... ESPN and the U.S. Golf Association announced a multi-year extension granting ESPN Int'l exclusive rights on all means and media in Latin America and the Caribbean to the USGA’s marquee championships, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open. The new agreement provides ESPN Int'l with live media rights on its linear and digital platforms throughout the stated regions, and extends the longstanding ESPN/USGA partnership in Latin America through '20. ESPN’s '14 Latin America/Caribbean coverage will include a minimum of 25 live hours of TV coverage from Pinehurst No. 2. The TV coverage will be complemented with additional digital content featuring marquee holes and player groups on ESPN Play, ESPN’s live and on demand broadband service. Should a playoff be required, ESPN will also air the entire 18 holes on Monday (ESPN).
