Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President MIGUEL CARDENAL on Monday praised Spanish King JUAN CARLOS, who announced his adbication in "favor of" his son, Crown Prince FELIPE. Cardenal called Carlos a "permanent example of enthusiasm for sports, an always decisive source of support for Spanish athletes" (EFE, 6/2). ... Spain's national football team was scheduled to "visit the White House this week to meet" U.S. President BARACK OBAMA while preparing for a pre-World Cup friendly the team will play against El Salvador in Washington, D.C. on Saturday (AS, 6/2). ... Cricket player ANDREW FLINTOFF "is poised to benefit from a surge in ticket sales after signing a deal with Lancashire that will earn him a cut of the gate receipts if he plays in the NatWest T20 Blast this summer." The former England captain, now 36, "has come out of retirement to sign a deal with Lancashire" that will earn him around £1 ($1.68) "for every extra spectator attending games because of his presence in their line-up" (London TELEGRAPH, 6/1).
