Event Notes: NBA Sells 7,000 Global Games Rio Tickets In Three Hours

The NBA sold nealry 7,000 tickets for the NBA Global Games Rio, featuring the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 11. The presale sold out in three hours. Ticket prices were lowered by 60% to $17 for students and $36 for non-students (NBA). ... Jamaica will join Mexico in CONMEBOL's Copa America tournament in Chile in '15. This is the first time Jamaica will compete. The team will have the opportunity to "compete against the South Americans a second time" in '16 if it wins the Caribbean Football Union Cup later this year in Montego Bay (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/27). ... Afghanistan has branded the Maldives as "poor hosts of the AFC Challenge Cup, complaining of transport problems including having to travel by boat from their luxury resort to venues." Afghan coach Mohammad Kargar, some of whose players "were also injured in a traffic accident on one of the islands, said the Maldives was a good holiday destination but a terrible place for a football tournament" (AFP, 5/27).
