Euroleague Basketball Confirms Madrid's Sports Palace Will Host Final Four

The Community of Madrid Sports Palace "will host" the Final Four of the Euroleague's '14-15 season, according to Ricardo González of AS. It will be the "second time in the modern era that the Spanish capital has hosted the final stages of the Euroleague." Madrid also hosted the event in '08. Euroleague CEO Jordi Bertomeu "made the official announcement on Saturday, highlighting the perfect location of the venue, in the center of the city." Community of Madrid Youth & Sports Dir General Pablo Salazar said, "It is a joy to host this magnificent sporting event" (AS, 5/17).

EUROLEAGUE RESTRUCTURE: González reported in a separate piece Bertomeu "assured that the league had improved in revenue, TV audience and game attendance." The "most important thing he said, however, was that the current system of club licensing, which gives teams permanent spots, will end next season." Euroleague's idea, which would take effect starting with the '15-16 season, "is a pyramid system of competition." The Euroleague "would be at the top, followed by the Eurocup and the national leagues." This "would include promotion and relegation between the Euroleague and Eurocup." Bertomeu "did not specify how promotion and relegation would be regulated" (AS, 5/18).

IT'S IN THE GAME: Video game maker 2K announced that it has added additional Euroleague teams to be featured in the NBA 2K15 game. The teams include FC Bayern Munich, JSF Nantere, Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul and Partizan NIS Belgrade. It brings the total number of Euroleague teams in the game to 25 (2K).
