Manchester United To Make Appointment Of New Manager Official After Season

The appointment of Holland coach LOUIS VAN GAAL as the new ManU manager "will not be announced until after the end of the season," according to James Ducker of the LONDON TIMES. It "had been anticipated" that Van Gaal’s appointment as DAVID MOYES’s successor at Old Trafford "would be confirmed this week but an announcement is now expected to be delayed until next week." A deal with the 62-year-old Dutchman "has all been agreed," but ManU is "thought to want to wait until the club have played their final league game of a miserable campaign, away to Southampton on Sunday, before going public" (LONDON TIMES, 5/7). In London, Mark Ogden reported RYAN GIGGS "will remain United's interim manager for their final game." Giggs "must then negotiate his own future at the club, which could involve remaining as a player, coach, or both, or leaving to pursue his managerial career elsewhere." Van Gaal will remain with the Dutch national team at the World Cup "before officially taking over at Old Trafford" (TELEGRAPH, 5/7).
