Former Singapore Table Tennis Association CEO CHOO WEE KHIANG was "cleared of the three remaining corruption charges he faced." These were for "allegedly accepting bribes from former coaches and a national player -- charges that were stood down earlier, while another unrelated case against him went to trial" (STRAITS TIMES, 5/3). ... La Liga side Atlético Madrid Owner/CEO MIGUEL ANGEL GIL MARIN and other club officials "will officially launch the Calcutta franchise of the Indian Super League" (THE TELEGRAPH, 5/4). ... WALTER R. WALSH, an FBI sharpshooter who was the world's oldest living Olympian, "has died." He was 106. Walsh died on Tuesday -- six days before his 107th birthday -- at his home in Arlington, Virginia. Walsh "finished 12th in the men's 50-meter free pistol at the 1948 London Olympics" (AP, 5/1). ... Former ManU Manager ALEX FERGUSON and Scottish League 1 Rangers Manager ALLY MCCOIST were among 1,000 mourners who attended a funeral service for former footballer SANDY JARDINE. The former Rangers, Hearts and Scotland defender died last week, aged 65, "following a battle with cancer." He was part of Rangers' European Cup Winners' Cup-winning team of '72 and played 38 times for his country (BBC, 5/2).
