BCCI Takes Cautious Stance In Wake Of Indian Premier League Corruption Probe

The Board of Control for Cricket in India "has adopted a cautious stance" in the aftermath of the Supreme Court asking the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee to probe further into allegations of corruption in the Indian Premier League, according to Arun Venugopal of THE HINDU. BCCI VP Ravi Sawant, however, said that "there was no erosion of the Board’s credibility." Sawant: "There is no question of that." A top former BCCI official rued that the whole episode had resulted in cricket being sidelined. The official said, "Whatever is happening is very unfortunate, and it’s certainly hurting the game." Others such as IPL governing council Chair Ranjib Biswal and BCCI Game Development GM Ratnakar Shetty "were understandably cagey and unwilling to comment on the development." Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi, though, "pulled no punches." Bedi: "The BCCI is crawling for credibility. Any layman can point this out" (THE HINDU, 4/24).
