Argentine Second Division Side Independiente President Javier Cantero Resigns Amid Turmoil

Argentine second division side Independiente President Javier Cantero resigned from his position on Wednesday "after weeks of uncertainty," according to Nahuel Lanzillotta of CLARIN. Following Cantero's resignation, "an agreement for economic assistance was expected to be signed between Independiente and opposing parties." The club "also scheduled a meeting to determine the date of elections of new Independiente officials." Independiente Second VP Claudio Keblaitis will "replace Cantero on an interim basis" (CLARIN, 4/23). Lanzillotta reported in a separate piece Keblaitis attended "practice to inform the roster of the club's new situation and the scope of the agreement with the opposition that will allow the club to hold elections." The idea is to "hold an Extraordinary Assembly on May 9 to establish an election date." The "elections are expected to be held on July 6, but could be delayed until July 20" (CLARIN, 4/24).
