University Of Canberra Looks Into Plans For New On-Campus Sports Hub

The University of Canberra "is planning to upgrade its state-of-the-art sports hub," driving plans to build facilities worth almost A$50M ($46M) at its Bruce campus, according to Chris Dutton of the CANBERRA TIMES. With the $16.5M ACT Brumbies headquarters almost complete, "plans are being put together" for a A$25M, nine-court indoor stadium. The multi-function sport complex would boast a 3,000-capacity show court with roll-in, roll-out grandstand seating, making it fit for basketball, netball, futsal and volleyball. The indoor venue "is part of a stage-two proposal for the university's vision to become the best sporting university in Australia." The potential addition of a A$5M boutique football stadium, capable of hosting W-League fixtures, would take the value of facilities to more than A$46M. It will need ACT, Commonwealth and regional government funding "before the project is approved" (CANBERRA TIMES, 4/23).
