La Liga side Real Sociedad extended the contract of coach JAGOBA ARRASATE, who will remain with the club through the '15-16 season. Arrasate is in his first year as Real Sociedad's head coach after serving as an assistant (INSIDE SPANISH FOOTBALL, 4/16). ... MARCO POLO DEL NERO was elected unopposed as the new president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on Wednesday "but the current vice-president will only take office in April 2015." Del Nero, "head of Brazil's biggest and most powerful state federation, Sao Paulo," and a member of FIFA's exec committee, will take over from JOSE MARIA MARIN. Del Nero said that "he was the candidate of continuity and vowed there would be no brusque changes in an organization many have criticized as outdated and inefficient." Del Nero said, "My administration will follow the same line as now and there will be few changes." He called Marin's presidency "exemplary" (REUTERS, 4/16). ... The Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) announced the appointment of SEBASTIEN GILLOT as head of communications (UCI). ... Former Australian Football League Players Association CEO ROB KERR "is Essendon's new general manager of football operations." Kerr, who on Tuesday resigned as Brisbane list manager, "will oversee all services that support the club’s football department, including recruiting and list management." He replaces DANNY CORCORAN, "who resigned late last year." Former Adelaide and Melbourne interim coach NEIL CRAIG "has been elevated to general manager of performance and will oversee coaching, development and high performance" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 4/16).
