League Notes: Hockey India To Provide Aid To Afghanistan Hockey Federation

Hockey India "has decided to send hockey sticks, balls and goalkeeping pads" to the Afghanistan Hockey Federation. The decision was taken at HI’s recent exec board meeting (THE HINDU, 3/30). ... Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has paid Rs 20 crore ($3.3M) income tax in '13-14 "to retain his pole position as the highest individual tax payer in the Bihar and Jharkhand region," a senior Income Tax official said on Friday. Dhoni has emerged as "the highest tax payer in individual category in Bihar and Jharkhand region for sixth consecutive year" (PTI, 3/28). ... Boxer Vijender Singh on Friday "urged the central government to step in and resolve the ongoing crisis in Indian boxing for betterment of the sport." Vijender: "The country's boxing federation has been suspended by the International body. I would request our government to step forward and resolve the issue" (PTI, 3/28). ... The Badminton World Federation said on Friday that it has fined the Badminton Korea Association $40,000 "for negligence after two players were banned for missing doping tests." The BWF said the South Korean association "failed in its duty of care" to Lee Yong Dae and Kim Ki Jung, "who were banned for one year in January" (AFP, 3/28).
