DHL Receives Around $832K Per F1 Team For Transporting Equipment To Overseas Races

The F1 "'circus' has once again started its travel around the world," according to BILD. Four jumbo jets "started their journeys to Australia on Sunday -- three from London and one from Milan." The trip to Melbourne "will take more than 40 hours including a layover." During overseas races like Australia, Malaysia or China, "each team ships around 30 tons of material via plane and 10 tons via ship to the racetracks." The racing series' logistics "is organized by F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone himself." Ecclestone's marketing company Formula One Management "has chartered the jumbo jets from German logistics company DHL, which in return receives a pretty penny for its services." The first 10 tons "are free of charge." Each additional ton has a price tag of €30,000 ($41,600) per team. It means a top team like Red Bull, which ships around 30 tons, has to pay about €600,000 ($832,000) in transport costs (BILD, 3/9).
