Media Notes: Infront, UCI Increase Live Broadcast Coverage For World Championships

The Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) and Infront Sports & Media have increased coverage of the Track World Championships in Cali, Colombia, which began Wednesday, to more than 100 countries and territories. Infront and the UCI have licensed int'l media rights for live, delayed, highlights and news coverage to around 30 media companies, broadcasting on free and pay TV as well as online and mobile platforms (UCI). ... IMG Media and Hurricane, the organizers of the FISE (Int'l Festival of Extreme Sport) World Series, have agreed to a deal to allow IMG Media to distribute worldwide rights until '20. The inaugural FISE World Series (FWS), an expansion of the current annual competition in Montpellier, France, will feature four events in '14, with six planned for '15. The first will take place in late May in Montpellier, with new events following in Andorra in June, Malaysia and Chengdu, China in September and October, respectively (IMG). ... Mobile phone provider Vodafone, together with Ericsson, Samsung and Qualcomm, "has conducted the first European test of the LTE broadcast system at the home of Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach." LTE "enables fans to access video content during a game on their smartphones and tablets" (COM MAGAZIN, 2/26).
