Second Bundesliga Club FC Cologne Agrees To New Stadium Lease

Second Bundesliga club FC Cologne "has agreed to a new stadium lease with stadium operator Kölner Spielstätten," according to Berger & Krämer of the KÖLNER STADT-ANZEIGER. Cologne Managing Dir Alexander Wehrle said on Wednesday, "We are on the finishing stretch and have reached agreements in the most important points, but the lawyers have to finalize it. We haven't signed anything yet." The new contract will be backdated to take effect on July 1, 2013. It will run until June 30, 2024 and adjust itself to the athletic situation of the club. In case the club gets promoted to the Bundesliga, it will have to pay around €7.9M ($10.8M) instead of €6.8M ($9.3M). In the 2nd Bundesliga, Cologne will have to pay €2.1M ($2.9M) instead of €3.5M ($4.8M). The new performance-based contract also calls for an additional €1.5M ($2M) if the club returns to the top flight. The contract "also includes a clause that provides the city with a stake of the club's revenue from TV money and marketing of the stadium naming rights" (KÖLNER STADT-ANZEIGER, 2/6).
