Former Barça Financial VP Voices Reservations About Cost Of Proposed Camp Nou Renovation

Former Barcelona Financial VP Joan Castells "has reservations about the viability of the Camp Nou renovation" proposed by Barcelona President Sandro Rosell, according to MARCA. Castells: "I don't know if it's necessary or whether the club can take on a €600 million ($812.8M) investment. It is a bold move when you consider the size of the investment, and not just in terms of the capacity of this investment to generate income. We're taking a big risk with the club's financial situation. The significant thing about the investment is that it is extremely substantial. I don't know if it is worth it. I have to think that the people in charge think so. I think it will be difficult to reconcile it with making signings." One thing Castells is "sure about is that he will be casting his vote." Castells said, "I will go and vote in the referendum, although I haven't decided if I will vote yes or no on the renovation. I would have liked an option to renovate the Camp Nou for €300 million ($406.4M) or less money, and I would have voted for that" (MARCA, 1/21).
