Olympic Notes: Spanish Canoeing Federation Unveils Campaign To Boost Sponsorship

The Spanish Canoeing Federation (RFEP) has developed a new project called "Los 16 de Brasil 2016" ("The 16 of Brazil 2016,") which was presented to Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD) with the "goal of attracting sponsorships so that Spain can have representatives in each of the 16 Olympic canoeing events." The project's "two purposes are clear: the first is commercial and involves maximizing sponsorship revenue." The second purpose "is to employ 'Communications 2.0' by creating audio-visual support that will help the sport develop its following" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 12/5). ... German President Joachim Gauck "has become the first major political figure to boycott the Sochi Winter Olympics in February." Gauck last week "told the Kremlin of his decision, which is understood to be a response to the Russian government's violations of human rights and harassment of the opposition" (London GUARDIAN, 12/8). ... The Nigeria Olympic Committee "has called on the government to fast-track the establishment of the National Anti-Doping Organization" in the country. NOC President Sani Ndanusa said that the "establishment of the body would help the West African country" fulfill WADA requirements (XINHUA, 12/7).
