Media Notes: German Public Broadcaster ARD Acquires FIFA Club World Cup TV Rights

German public broadcaster ARD "has aquired TV rights for the FIFA Club World Cup for the German market." The event, which will take place in Morocco in December, "will feature defending UEFA Champions League champion Bayern Munich" (MEEDIA, 11/29). ... TV Asahi announced the acquisition of the exclusive Japanese broadcasting rights for the FIA Formula E Championship. Based in Tokyo, TV Asahi boasts a network of regional channels and a potential reach of 51.4 million households (FIA). ... Global news agency AFP and China's Hupu Sports Media Co. plan to launch a Chinese language sports service in China. The AFP will provide stories, photos, video and graphics to Hupu, which will select items appealing to Chinese sports fans and deliver them along with its own content through a new website and mobile applications (AFP).
