Cricket Australia, ABC Yet To Sign Broadcast Rights Six Days Ahead Of Brisbane Test

With the first Test six days away, Cricket Australia and the ABC have "still not signed a contract for the broadcast rights," according to Peter Lalor of THE AUSTRALIAN. If the deal is not done, "there may be no radio coverage of the Brisbane Test." Both parties, however, "are confident a contract will be signed although time is short." The contract is in the hands of lawyers and while there are a number of small sticking points, "it is understood they will not stand in the way of the two parties coming together." Cricket Australia's demand that "it exclusively host the link to the internet streaming of the commentary on its website has been the major problem." The clause means the ABC cannot provide a direct link to its own commentary on its website, "meaning listeners will have to come through CA's home page." There are also concerns over CA's desire "to have its sponsors mentioned and similar commercial demands that would breach the ABC's charter" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 11/15).
