IOC Refutes Reports Of Social Media Ban At 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics

The IOC said that there "will be no ban on journalists taking photographs or using social media" at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, according to R-SPORT. A Russian media report on Monday "falsely attributed statements about supposed restrictions for reporters" to R-Sport Editor Vasily Konov, and the report "was cited by numerous Russian and US media outlets." The IOC said in a statement, “As during the London 2012 Games, accredited media at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games are free to use social media platforms or websites for reporting purposes in line with the social media guidelines for accredited persons. There have been no rule changes from London and the media will be able to report from the Games venues in Sochi, including by social media, in the same way” (R-SPORT, 11/12).
