Utrecht To Host 2015 Tour De France Grand Depart As Race Returns To Foreign Soil
Published November 12, 2013
The 2015 Tour de France will start in Utrecht after organizers confirmed that "they will stage back-to-back foreign Grand Departs," according to SKY SPORTS. Twelve months after England hosts the first three stages of the '14 edition, Amaury Sports Organisation "will take the world's biggest cycle race to the Netherlands for the second time in six years and sixth time in total." Utrecht "is renowned as a cycling city, with an estimated 160,000 bikes in regular use, encompassing more than half the population of the city" (SKY SPORTS, 11/8). The London GUARDIAN reported the city said in a statement it was "extremely happy with this enormous economic, cultural and tourism impulse." Details of the opening stage of the race will be revealed on Nov. 28, Tour organizers said on the race website (GUARDIAN, 11/8).
