Scottish League 1 Rangers have appointed Fund Manager David Somers as their acting chairman, according to the HERALD SCOTLAND. The club announced to the London Stock Exchange that the 65-year-old "would oversee the appointment of a chief executive, a role which has been vacant since Craig Mather left." The club's statement to the stock exchange read, "The board of Rangers announces that it has appointed David Somers as an independent non-executive director and acting chairman" (HERALD SCOTLAND, 11/7). The SCOTSMAN reported Somers is "expected to lead the process" of appointing a new CEO. He will also "oversee the appointment of other independent non-executive directors to add to the depleted board." Somers is said to have “considerable experience” in corporate governance, with the statement adding that the appointment was intended to lead to a “unified board and provide stability for Rangers” (SCOTSMAN, 11/7). The SCOTSMAN also reported the Rangers annual general meeting will be held Dec. 19 at the club's stadium. The Murray group -- backed by Clyde Blowers Chair Jim McColl -- is "looking to install" Malcolm Murray, Paul Murray, Alex Wilson and Scott Murdoch onto the board and is also "seeking the removal" of Finance Dir Brian Stockbridge (SCOTSMAN, 11/7).
