Event Notes: Scottish FA Defends Early Decision On Scottish Cup Venues

The Scottish FA "has defended its decision to name Celtic Park and Ibrox as the venues for the latter stages of the William Hill Scottish Cup by insisting that clubs wanted to know the stadia in advance." The SFA said, "It is important for fixture planning schedules to announce the venues as early as possible. Ave s/f [average semifinal] attendances are 25k+ so only two football stadia can accommodate those numbers" (SCOTSMAN, 10/31). ... F1 drivers "have been warned that track limits will be more rigorously enforced at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix." Amid a recent focus on drivers running off track to potentially gain a benefit, the FIA "has made it clear that it will not tolerate drivers running wide at any of the chicanes at the Yas Marina circuit to get an advantage" (AUTOSPORT, 10/31). ... The fate of the first internationally sanctioned motor race in Hong Kong will hinge on a 10m stretch of tarmac on Lung Wo Road, Central -- the "focus of intense discussions" between Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag and government officials as they "tried to hammer out a deal" for the Formula E electric racing series to be held in Nov. '14 (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST, 10/31).
