Former Dutch national coach DICK ADVOCAAT "has agreed a short-term contract" to take over at Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar until the end of the season (REUTERS, 10/16). ... Japan's Pacific League club Seibu Lions Manager HISANOBU WATANABE resigned Tuesday "after the team missed out on both the Japan Series and Pacific League titles for the fifth straight year" (KYODO, 10/16). ... IPC governing board member and Brazilian Paralympic Committee President ANDREW PARSONS "has been appointed to serve" on the IOC Coordination Commission for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (IPC). ... Poland sacked coach WALDEMAR FORNALIK "after their failure to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil" (BBC, 10/16). ... U.S. Special Olympics appointed JANET FROETSCHER as CEO. She will work out of the Special Olympics' Washington, D.C. headquarters beginning Monday (Special Olympics). ... South African side Maritzburg United has named CLINTON LARSEN its new coach. He replaces ERNST MIDDENDORP, who "jumped ship" at Maritzburg on Thursday to take up the vacant Celtic job. For Larsen, it is "a return to the club where he first began his coaching career" as assistant to GORDON IGESUND" (SOWETAN LIVE, 10/16). ... Hockey India named Australian Olympian TERRY WALSH as chief coach of its senior men's national team (PTI, 10/15).
