The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race has agreed to deals with BBC Worldwide and 1080 Media TV that will see the launch of two new TV series. BBC Worldwide will distribute the shows, which will be produced by 1080 Media TV. They are currently in production and were launched by BBC Worldwide at Sportel Monaco this week. One of the shows will be a topical sports show that will capture the thrills and spills of the 40,000-mile event. The other will follow novices learning to become sailors as they tackle tough conditions (ISPORTCONNECT, 10/15).
The first professional boxing event to be held in Abu Dhabi "has been postponed from Thursday" until Dec. 19 after organizers "failed to secure UAE visas for travelling fighters." Lion Heart Boxing Promotions' Edward Mendy "had arranged for a full card of fights to be held at the 5,000-capacity du Forum on Yas Island." Mendy: "We had no choice but to postpone the show as four African fighters on the card did not get visas" (GULF NEWS, 10/15). ... The Dubai Cricket Council has "warned private tournament organisers that any event that does not seek their written permission will be declared as 'unauthorised.'" The council has also asked "private ground owners not to lease out their grounds to such tournament organisers if organisers cannot present any approval letter from the concerned cricket council" (GULF NEWS, 10/15).
