Media Notes: Frustrated Football Fan Buys TV Rights To Irish World Cup Qualifier

Frustrated by a lack of TV coverage of his team, a football fan "has bought the Australian TV rights for Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Sweden to ensure that Irish down under don't miss the crunch clash." David Feeney said that "he was so frustrated at not being able to watch his team on television that he decided to buy the rights himself" (REUTERS, 8/28). ... Indian Sports Media company Seven3Sports "has entered into an agreement with Ten Sports, the official broadcaster of the U.S. Open for the mobile rights license of the grand slam" (Indian BUSINESS STANDARD, 8/28). ... ESPN launched the availability of ESPN Deportes and ESPNEWS on WatchESPN, accessible online at WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and on Apple TV to fans who receive their video subscription from an affiliated provider. Fans will be able to access the Spanish-language sports network as well as the 24/7 news and information network (ESPN). ... Broadcasters At The Races and SIS will continue to screen Irish racing until the end of 2016 after completing a new deal. They have agreed to terms with Horse Racing Ireland and the Association of Irish Racecourses. Under the terms of the new agreement ATR will have exclusive, cross platform, non-LBO media rights worldwide to all Irish fixtures. SIS retains all domestic and int'l betting shop rights under the terms of its current contract with HRI (SIS).
