Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport "has secured the domestic and int'l media rights for the women's football Bundesliga," according to Sidney Schering of QUOTENMETER. Eurosport "acquired the rights from the German Football Federation (DFL) for the next three seasons starting with the '13-14 campaign." Eurosport "will live broadcast one match per gameday." DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock said, "We are very happy that Eurosport will show games of the women's Bundesliga to a Europe-wide audience." Eurosport's first broadcast will be the game between VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich on Sept. 7 (QUOTENMETER, 8/28).
German public broadcaster ZDF "recorded Wednesday's top ratings with its broadcast of the Champions League playoff round match between Bundesliga club Schalke and Greek side PAOK," according to Sidney Schering of QUOTENMETER. A total of 5.67 million viewers tuned in to watch Schalke's 3-2 victory. The number translated into a market share of 20.2%. In the target demographic 14-49, the game attracted 1.59 million viewers and obtained a 14.7% market share. With the win, Schalke advanced to the Champions League group stage (QUOTENMETER, 8/28).
