Media Notes: Ireland Broadcaster RTÉ Secures Free-To-Air Rights For 2016 Olympics

Irish public broadcaster RTÉ has secured free-to-air TV rights for the 2016 Rio Olympics. The deal includes TV highlights, radio coverage and comprehensive digital coverage across all platforms (RTÉ). ... Spanish newspaper AS is offering readers a complementary initiative to go with the publication's traditional La Liga Guide, which is now available. AS has created the AS La Liga Guide App, which costs €.89 ($1.19) and is available for iPhone and Android devices (AS). ... Sport media and technology firm Deltatre has been given the graphic and data service rights for use in the production and distribution of the Premier League's int'l programming. The agreement runs through the '15-16 season (Deltatre). ... EPL Stoke City striker Peter Crouch "stars as a footballer who has inadvertently signed to a pub team" in the latest ad for Virgin Media created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty. The ad, which promotes the availability of BT Sport on the Virgin Media platform, uses the strapline: "Make sure you start the season with the right team" and reunites Crouch with his former boss Harry Redknapp, who provides the voiceover (CAMPAIGN LIVE, 8/15). ... China Central Television (CCTV) launched its second sports channel on Sunday to broadcast games 24 hours a day. The high-definition channel, CCTV 5+, "will complement its predecessor, CCTV 5, with a wider coverage of games worldwide" (XINHUA, 8/18).
