Fu took over from Spaniard JOSE ANTONIO CAMACHO in June. The "time for the visit has not been determined" for América, which defeated Cruz Azul in penalty kicks for the championship (LA AFICION, 8/12). ... POPE FRANCIS Tuesday "received the national football teams of Italy and Argentina" ahead of an int'l friendly Wednesday in his honor at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico. The Pope said, "Frankly, it will be difficult for me to root for one team." The Pope, who is a registered supporter of the Buenos Aires club San Lorenzo de Almagro, "received the group of about 200 people at the Sala Clementina in the Vatican," including LIONEL MESSI (DPA, 8/13).

NOTABLE DEATHS: Former French footballer and Ligue 1 Nantes coach JEAN VINCENT has died at the age of 82. Nantes called Vincent a "true legend of Nantes and French football" on its club website (EFE, 8/13). ... Former Australian captain BOB BIGNALL has died at age 91. Bignall played eight matches for Australia during the mid-'50s, captaining the side at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics (AAP, 8/12).
