IOC Presidential Candidate Ching-Kuo Wu Admits To Receiving Death Threats

Amateur boxing World President Ching-Kuo Wu, who is standing as a candidate for IOC presidency, revealed that he "has received death threats in the last five years," according to Gareth A. Davies of the London TELEGRAPH. However, Wu insists leading world sport must be done with "no fear." Wu, in London to promote his case for IOC leadership, said he had been "threatened in boxing after ridding the sport of corruption and bribery." Prior to Wu's presidency of AIBA, "there were two decades of alleged corruption in amateur boxing" under President Anwar Choudhry, who passed away in '09. Wu: "My themes involve transparency and credibility. I came into boxing and I had to be very tough." The Taiwanese is the third IOC member, behind Germany's Thomas Bach and Singaporean Ng Ser Miang, both IOC VPs, to "decide to run for the post." The election is set for Sept. 10 at the IOC session in Buenos Aires (TELEGRAPH, 8/13).
