British jockey MARTIN DWYER "has been banned for eight months by stewards in India after losing the latest stage of a fight against suspension." Dwyer originally had a 55-day suspension imposed for allegedly preventing his mount Ice Age from running on its merits. The ban "was extended after an appeal board sent the case back to Royal Western India Turf Club stewards" (BBC, 8/12). ... The Trinidad and Tobago athletics federation has confirmed that sprinter KELLY-ANN BAPTISTE "is involved in a doping case and that is why she withdrew from the 100m at the world championships." The '11 bronze medalist "had been scheduled to compete in the 100, 200 and 4x100 relay," but she pulled out of Sunday's 100m heats. The federation said the withdrawal was "related to doping matters" (AL JAZEERA, 8/12). ... Former Serie A club AS Roma goalkeeper ALEXANDER DONI "has retired from the game because of a problem with his heart" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 8/12). ... Retired motorcycle racer CASEY STONER "has again reiterated he has no intention of returning to MotoGP in the wake of completing a two-day test with Honda" (London INDEPENDENT, 8/7). ... Former Bulgarian U21 int'l and Slavia Sofia midfielder BORISLAV BALDZHIYSKI "has been charged with murder after a man was killed on Tuesday night in Sofia."
