  • Premier League Aston Villa Announces Three-Year Partnership With Carlsberg Brewery

    Premier League side Aston Villa has announced a partnership with Carlsberg brewery, the official beer of the Premier League. The sponsorship will run for three seasons starting with the '13-14 campaign, securing pouring rights for Carlsberg and Carlsberg UK's beer and beverage portfolio at Villa Park. The partnership features a brand presence for Carlsberg in all bars, suites and exec areas located around the stadium. Carlsberg also secured branding on Villa Park's LED screens and media interview boards and access to hospital and match tickets for promotional activity (Aston Villa).

  • England Cricket Team Apologizes Following Player's Criticism Of ECB Car Supplier

    England's national cricket team, "chasing a retraction over Channel 9’s cheat allegations, have issued an apology themselves over one of their players upsetting a sponsor," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. England cricketer Alex Hales annoyed England and Wales Cricket Board car supplier Jaguar by "complaining on Twitter about the late delivery of his car -- claiming it was months overdue -- while on international duty in the United Arab Emirates." Hales' Jaguar was "supplied through a county deal rather than the ECB sponsorship but his criticism of Jaguar when on an England tour led to him being disciplined" and ECB Managing Dir Hugh Morris apologizing to the car company. Meanwhile, women's cricket has "found a backer for the England women's team involved in the other Ashes series." The deal with Kia Motors "will be announced this week" (DAILY MAIL, 8/11).

  • Aon Extends Partnership With NFL Through '14, Will Sponsor Both Games At Wembley In '13

    London-based risk management group Aon has extended its partnership with the NFL for games to be played in London during the '13 and '14 seasons. Aon, which has been a partner with the NFL since '12, will serve as the official sponsor of the two sold-out games at London's Wembley Stadium later this year. The Minnesota Vikings will play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 29 while the Jacksonville Jaguars will play the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 28 (Aon).

    An auction of eight game-worn Barcelona jerseys from a friendly against Brasileiro club Santos ended on Saturday. The jerseys "receiving the most interest belonged, in order, to Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol and Sergio Busquets." The auction raised a total of €6,979 ($9,290) "for social project BOX21, which aims to improve the quality of life for people with mental disabilities" (SPORT, 8/11). ... German Hockey League (DEL) club Augsburg Panther has signed a new sponsorship deal with furniture brand Wagner for the '13-14 season. The company's logo will be featured on the player's shoulders. The club also extended its sponsorship deal with regional energy supplier Lechwerke (LEW) for another year (Augsburg Panther). ... Online gambling company bwin "has continued its busy summer of football deals by announcing a three-year partnership" with Ligue 1 club Olympique de Marseille. Bwin "becomes the official online betting and gaming partner" of the club (SOCCEREX, 8/12). ... Ligue 1 side Monaco has announced a partnership with employment agency Triangle Interim for the '13-14 season. Monaco will wear the Triangle Interim logo on the left sleeve of the official jersey (Monaco). ... Swimwear company Speedo will sponsor the Philippines National Team in the upcoming Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China from Friday-Aug. 24 (MANILA TIMES, 8/12).
