FIBA Relaunches Intercontinental Cup Between South American, Euro Champs

The Int'l Basketball Association (FIBA), FIBA Americas and Euroleague Basketball have announced the return of the Intercontinental Cup, which has been on hiatus since '96. In a two-leg series on Oct. 4 and 6 at the Barueri Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, FIBA Americas League champion Pinheiros Sky of Sao Paulo will take on Euroleague champion Olympiacos Piraeus of Greece. FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann said, "FIBA is happy to support the comeback of the Intercontinental Cup with the champions of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and the FIBA Americas League, the top international club competitions of the two continents" (FIBA).
