Sport1 Moves Handball Bundesliga Broadcasts From Tuesday To Wednesday Evenings

German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "will move handball from its traditional spot on Tuesday evenings to Wednesday evenings," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. Sport1 promises to broadcast 60 games during the '13-14 Handball Bundesliga (HBL) season. The channel "moved its handball coverage in order to air fourth-tier football games." The new slot means that the HBL "has to compete with German public broadcaster ZDF's UEFA Champions League broadcast." In addition to its free-TV coverage, Sport1 "will show a minimum of up to 82 games online, including 22 exclusive." During the '12-13 season, Sport showed about 100 games and the year before it was more than 150 games. The continued reduction of HBL coverage on Sport1 "is bad news for the league as it signed a long-term extension with the channel until '17 last year" (QUOTENMETER, 7/24).
