Scottish Football League CEO David Longmuir's $152K Bonus Angers Clubs

Talks to revamp Scottish football "were almost torpedoed" when lawyers uncovered a £100,000 ($152,470) bonus due to be paid to Scottish Football League CEO David Longmuir, according to Jackson & Parks of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Longmuir’s "bumper deal, which is due to be paid in full later this month, came as a shock to the SFL board." Details of the arrangement only came to light when legal experts representing the Scottish Premier League "asked for full disclosure on the SFL’s financial affairs." There has been an "angry reaction from some of the league’s 30 clubs." Longmuir insists the terms of his contract were open and "above board." Longmuir: "The SFL board have known the terms and conditions of my contract since I started in 2007. That’s when my contract was signed and it hasn’t changed. This is a non-issue as far as I’m concerned." Longmuir’s version of events "was blown out of the water" by SFL VP Ewen Cameron. Cameron: "In my time in the management committee and as a recent board member I have never seen a bonus payment go through the books." The new Scottish Premier Football League body "refused to honour Longmuir’s bonus deal and this led to further legal talks and delays." Eventually, it was agreed the SFL will pay Longmuir "in full from what funds remain in its bank account" (DAILY RECORD, 7/1).
