TV Presenter Andrew Castle Apologizes, Pays Damages To David Lloyd For On-Air Comment

BBC Wimbledon presenter Andrew Castle has apologized and paid damages to former British Davis Cup captain David Lloyd "for falsely suggesting on-air that 'personal problems' could rule him out of being appointed chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association," according to Josh Halliday of the London GUARDIAN. Castle "made the comments live on BBC2 during a rain delay at the Aegon Tennis Championships at the Queen's Club in London" on June 12. In a joint statement on Monday, Castle accepted his claim was "without foundation" and agreed to pay undisclosed damages to Lloyd. The BBC "refused to say whether Castle personally paid damages to Lloyd or whether the bill was footed by licence fee payers" (GUARDIAN, 6/24).
