Sport1+ Acquires Several Int'l Football Media Rights; Sat.1 Gets Boxing Rights

German pay-TV channel Sport1+ "has acquired media rights to several int'l football leagues," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. Sport1+ acquired broadcast rights for the Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, Ligue 2 and Coupe del la League (League Cup), the Brazilian Brasileiro and regional championship Paulista, all starting with the '13-14 season. In addition, Sport1+ will show Major League Soccer matches starting in '14. Sport1+ Program Dir Olaf Schröder said, "With the rights to Serie A, Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Coupe de la League, Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, Paulista and Major League Soccer, we have been able to expand our program portfolio with elite football" (QUOTENMETER, 6/5).

BOXING RIGHTS: RAPID TV NEWS' Jörn Krieger reported media group ProSiebenSat.1 "has acquired boxing rights that had been in possession of German public broadcaster ARD." ProSiebenSat.1 TV Germany Managing Dir Zeljko Karajica "made the annoucement at the Sponors Sports Media Summit in Cologne." Sat.1 "will show the next three bouts of WBO Super Middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz" (RAPID TV NEWS, 6/5).

BIATHLON: The DPA reported German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "will reportedly continue to show the Int'l Biathlon Union men's and women's World Cup events." The IBU "is negotiating the final contract details of an extention with the European Broadcast Union." ARD and ZDF are part of the EBU (DPA, 6/5).
