Fox Sports Awarded Euro 2016, 2018 World Cup European Qualifier Multi-Media Rights

Fox Sports Media Group and UEFA have entered into a multi-media rights agreement for all Euro 2016 and 2018 World Cup European qualifying matches. FSMG has also agreed to sublicense half the game inventory to ESPN for carriage on its TV and digital assets. The rights are exclusive in the U.S., non-exclusive in the Caribbean. Qualifying matches for Euro 2016 are in Sept. '14, while 2018 World Cup qualifiers begin in Sept. '16. The rights retained by FSMG and those granted to ESPN are identical. Fox Sports and ESPN each have rights to more than 270 matches total for both cycles. Each package includes:

  • 129 Euro 2016 qualifiers (Sept. '14 - Nov. '15)
  • 129 2018 World Cup qualifiers (Sept. '16 - Nov. '17)
  • 15 int'l friendly matches over the term ('14-18)
ESPN, Euro 2016 rights holder, plans to offer its more than 270 qualifying matches across ESPN networks -- ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, WatchESPN and ESPN3 (FSMG).
