Spanish Pay-TV Provider Wants To Make Its Voice Heard Within Spanish Football League

Spanish pay-TV provider Sogecable wants representation in the Spanish Football League (LFP), according to José Félix Díaz of EL CONFIDENCIAL. To achieve this, Sogecable is pressuring the Spanish teams whose rights the provider controls. Sogecable "wants to have a voice and a vote in the different strategies of the LFP and prevent MediaPro, the other TV provider, from being the only big beneficiary." La Liga club Atlético Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil, Atlético's LFP representative, is "in charge of forming the candidacy [for Sogecable] and everything indicates that it will be [former Malaga and Atlético Madrid footballer] Clemente Villaverde that presents at the elections" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 5/8).
