Germany's Sport1 Scores Top Ratings For Hockey, Football Broadcasts

German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "has recorded convincing ratings for its broadcasts of the 2013 Int'l Ice Hockey Federation World Championship and the 2nd Bundesliga," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER. The German national team's third world championship game against Slovakia on Monday attracted an average of 290,000 viewers. The game, which started at 3:15pm German time, had a 3.4% market share. In the target demographic 14-49, Germany's 3-2 loss was watched by 80,000 viewers and obtained a 2.7% share. For comparison, the channel's usual market share is only 0.8%. Following the Germany-Slovakia game, Sport1 showed parts of the 2013 IIHF World Championship matchup between Switzerland and the Czech Republic. The game, which aired at 5:30pm, attracted 170,000 viewers and obtained a 1.4% share. In the target demographic, Switzerland's 5-2 victory was watched by 60,000 viewers, which equaled a 1.4% market share. In addition, Sport1 showed the 2nd Bundesliga game between Braunschweig and Cottbus. The 0-0 draw attracted 660,000 viewers and obtained a 2.2% share. In the target demographic, 220,000 viewers tuned in, which translated into a 1.9% market share (QUOTENMETER, 5/7).
