Event Notes: La Liga's 35th Matchday Schedule Announced

The Spanish Football League (LFP) has announced the schedule of the games for the 35th Matchday, which will be played from May 10-13. One of the most attractive games will be between Barcelona and Atlético in Vicente Calderón Stadium, which will be played May 12 at 7pm local time. Real Madrid will play Espanyol at Cornellá-El Prat Stadium at 10pm local time on May 11 (MARCA, 4/30). ... The Coppa Italia Final between Roma and Lazio "will take place at 6pm local time on May 26." The tie "was initially set to kick off at 9pm, but the local authorities opposed such a late start" after trouble erupted outside of the Olympic Stadium before the recent League derby (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 4/30). ... Greek club Panathinaikos Athens has been "ordered to play four home games in basketball's Euroleague behind closed doors" and fined £85,000 ($132,000) for offenses during its quarterfinal series against Barcelona. Euroleague Basketball, the premier club competition's ruling body, "punished the Greek side for the use of illegal sirens, flares and firecrackers as well as for breaching the official capacity" of its OAKA Arena for the two matches against Barca (EUROSPORT, 4/30). ... The NBA 3X, a popular fan festival with a three-on-three tournament, will be held for the first time in Singapore (NBA). ...

SURF'S UP: Oakley is taking its Oakley Surf Shop Challenge for the first time to Europe, starting with France and Spain: The employees of five selected surf shops from southwest France and two from the rest of the country face one another and the team of a selected English store on the waves of Anglet between June 6-7 (ISPO). ... Spanish King Juan Carlos visited Santiago Bernabeu Stadium for the Champions League semifinal second leg matchup between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund Tuesday, marking his first appearance outside of Zarzuela Palace since Mar. 3. Madrid won the match 2-0, but Dortmund advanced on the aggregate score (MARCA, 4/30). ... The Champions League semifinal second leg between FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich on Wednesday will draw a record 990 credentialed journalists to Camp Nou. The previous record was established in '11, also for a Champions League semifinal second leg, that one between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The 990 journalists, including writers, editors, photographers and technicians, will represent 29 countries (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 4/30).
