Event Notes: Barcelona To Play Summer Match In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Organizers said that Barcelona "will play a friendly" against a Malaysian XI at the 100,000 capacity Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The game is scheduled for Aug. 10 (GULF NEWS, 4/18). ... Costa Rica wants to move a World Cup qualifying game against the U.S. "to cozy old Ricardo Saprissa" stadium. The Sept. 6 match "was originally scheduled to be held at the National Stadium" (AP, 4/17). ... The winner of the Fujairah Int'l Half Marathon stands to earn a bonus of $100,000, "should he break the world record when the race is held along the Fujairah Corniche on Friday morning" (GULF NEWS, 4/18). ... Security fears after recent incidents of fan misbehavior at games has prompted organizers "to reduce Dobsonville Stadium's capacity for Saturday night's clash between Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs." Despite huge interest in the South African Premier Soccer League fixuture, Swallows will sell only 15,000 tickets for the 18,000-seat venue (SOWETAN LIVE, 4/18). Kaizer Chiefs "will return to FNB Stadium for their final home game of the season." That will be on May 4 when they host National First Division side United FC in the semifinal of the Nedbank Cup (SOWETAN LIVE, 4/18).
