Scottish Football League CEO Longmuir Says He Is Not Favoring Rangers

Scottish Football League CEO David Longmuir Wednesday night rejected claims that he is favoring Third Division side Rangers "in proposals for league reconstruction," according to Gordon Parks of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Longmuir dismissed accusations that he is "being led by his Ibrox counterpart Charles Green on the way forward as detailed discussions continue over a revamp of the Scottish game." Longmuir admitted that "he is working for the best interests of the Light Blues" -- but only as part of a blueprint best suited to all 30 lower-league clubs under his charge. He said: "If you are asking me if I am a Rangers man in the SFL, yes. But I am also Livingston's, Annan's, Raith Rovers', Brechin's, Forfar's, East Fife's, Queen's Park's, Airdrie's, Albion Rovers'. I have every one of those clubs in my heart" (DAILY RECORD, 4/4).

NEEDED ATTENTION: In Edinburgh, Alan Pattullo reported Longmuir "did accept that Rangers have a powerful voice, and he added that they have been a credit to the SFL since joining in the summer." He said, "They have brought a marvellous amount of attention to the Scottish Football League. They have brought numbers of fans, they have brought a media deal, they have brought sponsorship. They have delivered hugely. The Third Division clubs are all appreciative of that" (SCOTSMAN, 4/4).
