Event Notes: German Basketball Federation Considers Bidding On EuroBasket 2017

The German Basketball Federation (DBB) "considers submitting a bid to host the European championships in '17 under certain conditions." DBB President Ingo Weiss said, "I would really like to bid for the European championship, but all requirements have to fit" (DPA, 3/25). ... Painan, Indonesia "will host the first Paragliding Accuracy World Cup" in April. Local organizers "are expecting about 100 foreign participants from 20 Asian and European countries, along with 10 Indonesian paragliders" (JAKARTA GLOBE, 3/25). ... Singapore has "declared its interest" in hosting the Rugby World Cup Sevens in '18. If chosen, the 55,000-capacity National Stadium at the upcoming Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang will host the tournament (STRAITS TIMES, 3/25). ... Singapore will play host to the inaugural Int'l Skating Union World Development Trophy next month, "holding the short-track speed skating segment of the two-leg competition." The April 9-13 event will take place at The Rink at JCube (STRAITS TIMES, 3/25). ... Bollywood stars -- "with the co-owner of defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders Shah Rukh Khan leading the ensemble -- will perform in a spectacular opening ceremony planned at the Salt Lake Stadium" in Kolkata, India on April 2, for the launch of the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League. Shah Rukh Khan will be performing with Katrina Kaif on the eve of Kolkata Knight Riders’s opening match against Delhi Daredevils" (THE HINDU, 3/25).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth.
